RE: CLARITY AND PROGRESS ON VACCINE INJURY COMPENSATION FUND
In the spirit of ubuntu and transparency, THJ writes to COGTA Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Health Minister Joe Phaahla regarding the vaccine injury compensation fund.
A. Please be advised:
- Our organisation, Transformative Health Justice (THJ), discovered last year that the email for the National Council for Medical Schemes in Gazette 44485 does not work.
- We contacted NCMS directly, to be advised that while they are receiving many queries, they are not dealing with the scheme, but the Department of Health is.
- We then immediately contacted the DOH, but the call was not answered twice.
B. Please confirm the follow essential information:
a) DOH is now administering the fund, since when, and is there oversight
b) who is the fund director or manager, and what are their contact details
c) what is the process to apply for compensation. Is there a website and call centre
d) when will these details be announced in an ongoing public awareness campaign
e) when will the public have full details on how many applications there are, how many people were compensated, and what fiscus amount was compensated to them.
We look forward to hearing from you by Friday 25 February 2022.
